Abstract

PURPOSE: To prepare a cationic resin composition useful as a dispersant, etc. giving a dispersion having improved homogeneity and stability, by polymerizing monomers in the presence of an alkali metal salt of a copolymer of styrene, etc. and an unsaturated acid, and further polymerizing in the presence of a cationic monomer, etc.
CONSTITUTION: In the presence of an alkali salt of a copolymer of a styrene compound (e.g. styrene, etc.) and/or a 4W18C olefin with an ethylenic unsaturated acid (e.g. maleic acid, etc.), one or more ethylenic monomers (e.g. acrylamide, etc.) (10W900wt% on the basis of the amount of the alkali salt) are polymerized to give a resin composition. A cationic monomer (e.g. dimethylaminoethyl acrylate, etc.) or a combination of an epihalohydrin and an organic amine compound, or a condensation product of an epihalohydrin and an organic amine compound are mixed with the resin composition obtained above, and polymerization or reaction is further carried out to give the desired resin composition.
