Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an ion exchange-membrane having a small electric resistance increase and a large monovalent cation selectivity, an anion exchange-group containing material having a specific HLB and molecular weight is provided on one or both faces of cation-exchange membrane.
CONSTITUTION: An anion exchange-group containing material having HLB of 13 to 12 and molecular weight of 600 to 20000 is provided on one or both faces of a cation- exchange membrane. For example, a membrane of styrene-divinylbenzene- 2-methyl- 5-vinylpyridine is provided with partially amino polychloro methyl styrene having 3 to 12 HLB and 600 to 20000 molecular weight. Then, non-reacted chloromethyl group and pyridyl group in the membrane are combined to be present in amount of 0.01 mg or greater per 1 dm2 of membrane surface area. This ion- exchange membrane is useful for diffusion dialysis, Donnan dialysis, pressure dialysis, electrodialysis, etc.
