Abstract

PURPOSE: To measure temperature of the inside wall of the mold exactly and easily by using a metal on which temper color is developed.
CONSTITUTION: The inside wall of the metal plate 1 that forms the mold for continuous casting is covered with a metal 3 such as Cr, on which temper color is developed, directly or through a plating metal 2. After molten metal is poured into the mold and continuously casted, the temper color on the metal 3 is compared with a standard temper color that has been tested in the laboratory, the temperature distribution on the inside wall of the mold is measured. In this way, the temperature distribution on the inside wall of the mold for continuous casting can be measured exactly and easily without drilling the metal plate 1 itself and regardless of material of the metal plate 1, the temperature distribution can continuously be grasped over the whole inside wall.
