Abstract

PURPOSE: To eliminate the necessity of a sliding table and simplify a construction of the typewriter with no movement of a printing mechanism etc. by a method wherein a tension means operating in such a direction as opposite to a sliding direction by its own weight between a moving frame for moving a character housing and a winding drum placed at a rear part of the typewriter table is arranged.

CONSTITUTION: A printing mechanism and a platen mechanism 4 etc. are arranged at a rear part of the typewriter table 1, a character housing 5 and an index plate 7 are placed in front of the typewriter table and inclined upwardly from the front side to the rear side. The character housing 5 is movably mounted in a rightward or leftward direction in a moving frame 3 slidably installed in a forward or rearward direction with respect to the typewriter table 1. A tension means such as a spring for applying a tension force in a direction opposite to that of the character housing 5 moved by its weight between the moving frame 3 and a winding drum 2 rotatably installed at a rear part of the typewriter table 1.
