Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a desulfurizing agent of excellent performance for molten cast iron, by addn. of a specific quantities of Ca-, Mg-cpds., carbon, fluoride of alkali metal or of alkaline earth metal, if necessary, silica to CaC2 powder which is a main component. CONSTITUTION:The desulfurizing agent is made by mixing 50-80% by wt. CaC2 powder with 10-30% by wt. CaCO3, Ca(OH)2, or CaO, 0.5-20% by wt. MgO-contg. powder, e.g., magnesia clinker, dolomite clinker, or serpentine etc., 0.5-20% by wt. carbonaceous material powder, e.g., oil coke, charcoal etc., 0.1- 10% by wt. fluoride of alkaline earth metal or alkali metal, e.g., MgF2, CaF2, NaF, etc., in addn. if necessary, 10% by wt. acidic cpd. powder, e.g., SiO2, etc. The mixt. is primarily powdered and then pulverized to a particle size larger than 100 meshes. The desulurizing agent has excellent dispersibility of CaC2, excellent flowability, and extremely high performance as the desulfurizing agent for the molten cast iron contained in a mixer car.
