Abstract

PURPOSE: To purify m-phenylenediamine by simple operations comprising; treating molten m-phenylenediamine with an aromatic solvent, followed by washing, cooling and crystallization.
CONSTITUTION: More than the saturated amount of m-phenylenediamine in an aromatic solvent (esp. benzene or toluene) is heatd at more than its melting temp. Then the molten m-phenylenediamine is treated with the aromatic solvent followed by washing, cooling and cristallization, to purify m-phenylenediamine. The purified m-phenylenediamine is substantially free of the substances which inhibit the polymerization, because, the process can be performed without using other chemicals (e.g. discoloration inhibitor) except the aromatic solvent.
