Abstract

PURPOSE: To enable the maintainance of adsorbing property and catalytic property of activated charcoal without deteriorating the said properties for a long time by a mechanism wherein a sulfur-compound-containing exhaust gas is passed along with ozone through an activated charcoal layer held at a high temperature.
CONSTITUTION: A sulfur compound containing exhaust gas treating apparatus comprises an ozone generator 4, an activated charcoal filled tower 6, a heater 7 or the like and a sulfur compound containing exhaust gas is introduced into the activated charcoal filled tower 6 through a filter 2, a blower 3 from a line 1. On the other hand, an ozone gas generated by an ozone generator 4 is blended with a sulfur compound containing exhaust gas before the activated charcoal filled tower 6 and introduced into the said tower 6 maintained at 100W200°C by the heater 7, a temperature sensor 8, a temperature controller 9. Thereby, the reaction of methyl sulfide and ozone is accerelated and a moisture content within activated charcoal is maintained below about 20wt%. Because a reaction product of sulfur compound and ozone is separated from activated charcoal, a sulfur component is not accumulated on activated charcoal and the deterioration of adsorbing and catalytic action is not generated.
