Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a compact and light ribbon change mechanism by displacing a ribbon cartridge in three positions and locating electromagnets extremely close to an attracted body.
CONSTITUTION: A first electromagnet 18 and a lever 16 are in a mutually attractable range, so that when the electromagnet 18 is excited the lever 16 is immediately attracted to rotate a ribbon cartridge 4 counterclockwise to a ribbon upper-layer selection position. A second electromagnet 20 is arranged on the side of the first one 18, and a magnetic body 21 is faced to the electromagnet 20. With the electromagnet 20 excited, the cartrige 4 rotates counterclockwise to a ribbon lower-layer selection position. For keeping the cartridge 4 in a ribbon layer selection position, a holding current is fed to each of the electromagnets 18 and 20. Thus, the ribbon cartridge 4 can be displaced easily and be made smaller in size.
