Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a thick molded product of a high physical strength having no bulged portion by inserting at least one layer of a glass fiber continuous strand mat between a plurality of intermediate layers.
CONSTITUTION: A layer 22 of a glass fiber continuous strand mat, which is called "GFCSM" for short, is inserted between intermediate layers 12b, 12c of SMC mat. It is necessary that a resin component sufficiently flows from the layers of SMC mat into the layer of GFCSM during a molding operation. Accordingly, the layers of SMC mat are provided such that a total thickness of the layers 12a, 12b of SMC mat and a total thickness of the layers 12c, 12d are at least twice as great as the thickness of the layer of GFCSM and, preferably, 4W8 times as great as the same layer. When obtaining a thicker molded product of this type, two layers of GFCSM are inserted between intermediate layers of SMC in upper and lower sections, respectively, of a combination of starting materials.
