Abstract

PURPOSE: To absorb sound energy effectively by providing a front-facing, small- diametered cap-like member in an outer sleeve coaxially with the outer sleeve and with slight spacing from the same.
CONSTITUTION: In an outer sleeve 1, there are provided, sequentially from the left to the right in the drawing, a front-facing 2, small-diametered cap-like member 4 disposed substantially coaxially with the outer sleeve 1 and with some spacing from the same and a front-facing and/or rear-facing, large-diametered cap-like members 5, 5' disposed axially of the outer sleeve 1 with no spacing to the same. With such an arrangement, when dense portion of exhaust gas introduced from exhaust pipe 2 is, for instance, reflected at the rear end portion of cap-like member 4 and concentrated at a portion near the rear end 2a with its phase being reversed, fluid having succeeding phase and subjected to interference is discharged from rear end 2a and joins together while causing interference. At the same time, temperature of fluid is lowered extremely by reason of its adiabatic expansion, so that noises produced by the fluid can be lowered considerably.
