Abstract

PURPOSE:To give white color tone to an Al alloy casting, the operation which has been formerly difficult to perform, and to give corrosion resistance to the alloy casting, by treating the casting in water which contains a chelating agent or a water- soluble aminoacid in addn. to a boehmite coating-forming agent. CONSTITUTION:To an aq. soln. contg. 0.05-1.0g triethanolamine, i.e., a boehmite-forming agent, per 100cc water is added EDTA as a chelating agent or a water-soluble aminoacid (e.g., glycine) to form a surface treatment fluid. The concn. of the EDTA is set not less than 2 times that of triethanolamine, and the concn. of the aminoacid not less than 5 times that of the triethanolamine. Treatment of Al alloy casting in the surface treatment fluid results in the improvement in the color tone and corrosion resistance of the Al alloy casting which is used especially for manufacturing kitchen utensils.
