Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a material having radiation shielding properties, and improved mechanical strength, and optical transparency, by copolymerizing a lead monoalkylitaconate with a specific polyfunctional monomer. CONSTITUTION:(A) A lead monoalkylitaconate is copolymerized with (B) a monomer of formula I: (R1 is H or CH3; A is 2-4C alkylene; n is an integer 2-60) and/or a monomer of formula II: (R2 is H or CH3; B is 4-25C hydrocarbon residue; m is an integer 2-4) and (C) a monomer selected from a 1-4C alkyl methacrylate or styrene to give the desired material. The contents (x and y wt.%) of (A) and (B) preferably satisfy the formulas III and IV.
