Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound useful as an intermediate of 0-(2,6-dichloroanilino)-phenylacetic acid, in high yield, by reducing 1-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)- indoline-2,3-dione with HI and red phosphorus.
CONSTITUTION: The objective compound III is prepared by (1) reacting 2,6-dichloroaniline with 2-iodobenzoic acid methyl ester in a solvent in the presence of potassium carbonate, at 170W240°C, (2) reacting the resulting product with sodium dimsyl to obtain O-(2,6-dichloroanilino)-ω-(methylsulfinyl)acetophenone I, (3) reacting the compound I with cupric halide to afford 1-(2,6-dichlorophenyl)-indoline-2,3-dione II, and (4) reducing the dione II with hydrogen iodide and red phosphorus. Each step can be carried out in high yield and in a short time, and the yield of the whole reaction is also high.
