Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain the title polyethylene with a high graft ratio by one step, by providing an extruder whose feed, compression, and metering zones are maintained at specific temperatures with a silicone grafted polyethylene forming blended composition. CONSTITUTION:A composition comprising polyethylene, a silane compound with a silyl group and a double bond in its molecule, an organic peroxide, and a silanol condensation catalyst is fed to the hopper H of an extruder E with a single screw S, wherein at least the front parts of a feed and a compression zones are maintained at not higher than 145 deg.C by a refrigeration medium, the front part of a metering zone is kept at 145-170 deg.C, and the back part of the metering zone is maintained at not lower than 200 deg.C. The composition is extruded while the temperature is raised under heating to give a cross linked silicone grafted polyethylene with a high graft ratio.
