Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce slender coke powder having a graphite layer face in a direction about perpendicular to the longitudinal direction by heating a straight chain higher aliph. hydrocarbon having such a property that is melts before carbonization to the carbonization temp. under a specified press.
CONSTITUTION: A straight chain higher aliph. hydrocarbon having such a property that it melts by heating under a press. of 25W35Kbar before carbonization, e.g. distearyl ether or tetraoctadecyl titanate is heated to the carbonization temp. or a temp. slightly above it, i.e. about 450°C under a press. of 25W35Kbar within about 10W 30min to obtain slender coke powder having a graphite layer face in a direction about perpendicular to the longitudinal direction and suitable for use in production of isotropic artificial graphite.
