Abstract

PURPOSE: To detect automatically the best recording level by detecting a recording level equivalent to a reproduction output equal to a reference level by storing the reproduction output of a signal varying sequentially by steps which is recorded together with a fixed bias current.
CONSTITUTION: In accordance with a program in ROM19, a signal varying in level by steps sequentially through recording level setting circuit 4 is recorded by microprocessor 18 on magnetic tape 7 together with a fixed bias current from bias setting circuit 8. Then, a reproduction output from tape 7 which is placed in rewind, halt and feed modes under the control of processor 18 is sequentially compared by A/D converter 17 and comparator 16 to obtain a digital signal, which is sequentially stored at a fixed address of RAM of processor 18. On the basis of memory contents, processor 18 performs fixed arithmetic to select a reproduction output equal to a reference level and a recording signal level equivalent to the reproduction output is considered the best level. The best recording level for various tapes are therefore detected automatically.
