Abstract
PURPOSE: To suppress the redundancy of the picture including the intermediate gradation through a simple process by giving the run-length coding to the gradation level every time the gradation level has change of one gradation and furthermore setting and inserting the gradation change inverted code.
CONSTITUTION: The first picture element of each scan line is set to gradation level 0, and then the run-length codes of gradation levels 1, 2... are transferred in sequence. As gradation levels 0∼7 feature run-length 0, the code of run-length 0 is repeated 8 times. After this, the code of run-length 2 with gradation level 8, the code of run-length 0 with gradation level 9, the code of run-length 2 with gradation level 10 and so on are transferred in sequence. After transfer of the code of run- length 4 with gradation level 13, the gradation changes from increment to decrement. However, in this case, gradation level 13 does not proceed to level 14 but to level 12. At this instant, gradation change inverted code R is transmitted. The same procedure is given even in the case of the opposite change of the gradation. For the run-length code, the short code is allotted preferably to the one featuring a high emergence probability in order to decrease the transmission bit number as much as possible for every picture element.
