Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent a magnetic head from wearing by braking a motor for a magnetic disk at the same time as the landing of a contact start-stop type magnetic head, on detecting the rotational frequency of the magnetic disk lowering. CONSTITUTION:To the tip of rotary arm type actuator 18, contact start-stop type magnetic head 19 is fitted. On detecting the rotational frequency of magnetic disk 10 lowering, index mark detector 21 allows rotational-frequency decision unit 23 to send a rotational-frequency decrease report signal. Switch 24, connected between power supply 25 and electromagnetic brake 17, operates electromagnetic brake 17 in response to the generation of the rotational-frequency decrease report signal. Consequently, the magnetic head can be prevented from wearing because the braking mechanism is operated after the rotation of the magnetic disk decreases to a certain degree to minimize the wearing of the braking mechanism.
