Abstract
NEW MATERIAL:A diphenyl ether derivative of formula I [X, Y are halogen, CF3 (when X is halogen, Y is CF3, and when X is CF3, Y is halogen); R1,2 are H, lower alkyl, alkenyl, etc.].
EXAMPLE: 2'-Chloro-4'-trifluoromethyl-3-aminosulfonyl-4-nitrodiphenyl ether.
USE: Herbicide effective to a wide variety of weeds such as annual or perennial true- grass weeds, broad-leaved weeds, etc., by soil-treatment or stalk and leaf treatemnt. A herbicide for paddy rice field, applied to the weeds of the early-or middle-growing stage, or a herbicide for plowed field applied to the soil or to the stalks and leaves of weeds.
PROCESS: For example, the compound II is converted to the compound III according to the reaction formula, and the compound III is reacted with an amine of formula IV (R3,4 are H, lower alkyl, or alkenyl) to afford the compound I.
