Abstract

PURPOSE: To maintain airtightness between the corner seal and apex seal of rotary piston engine at the time when temperature of engine is raised, by plating the outer surface of corner seal with steel material and making the inside of corner seal with sintered alloy of a special composition having a high coefficient of thermal expansion.
CONSTITUTION: Although inner hole diameter of corner seal groove 4 is increased due to thermal expansion of rotor 3 at the time when temperature of engine is raised, airtightness between rotor 3 and corner seal groove 4 can be maintained since outer steel material 6 of corner seal 5 is also expanded correspondingly. At the same time, sintered alloy 7 filling the inside of said outer steel material 6 is expanded in a direction closing gap 7a for receiving the apex seal 2, that is, expansion of the clearance between apex seal 2 and the gap 7a is prevented, so that airtightness between them can be maintained. Here, sintered alloy on the inside of corner seal 5 is composed of 8W25wt% of Ni, 3.5W10wt% of Cu, 2.0wt% of C and remaining wt% of Fe, and coefficient of thermal expansion of the alloy is selected to be larger than that of rotor 3.
