Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce wave energy and to keep clean water in harbor by eliminating penetrative waves passed through water holes of common base plate by making use of overflow waves from overflow window of rear wall of breakwater disposed at a position higher than stationary water level of surging space.
CONSTITUTION: Phase difference of about half period in time base can be created between wave motion in front of front wall 1' of breakwater and wave motion within surging space 2 by suitaly selecting opening size and depth of water hole 3 which is penetrated through common base plate 3' and provided with considerable resistance against water. Accordingly, when water level in front of breakwater is at its lowest, water level within surging space 2 is at its highest so as to permit water to overflow from overflow window 4. On the other hand, wave form of penetrative waves passing through water hole 3 of base plate 3' is almost similar to wave form of waves in direct front of breakwater. Therefore, overflowing waves from overflow window 4 and penetrating waves through hole 3 are cimbined together in the harbor at rear side of rear wall 4' so that waves are eliminated by other waves. moreover, sufficient water is supplied through water holes 3 from outside into harbor so that water in the harbor is kept clean at all times.
