Abstract

PURPOSE: To make it possible to perform self-diagnosis rapidly at a fault time by providing a self-diagnosis part, which can be switched to be used, in a facsimile unit itself.
CONSTITUTION: When a facsimile unit operates normally, lines B and E and lines D and C are connected to directly each other respectively. These lines are connected to a self-diagnosis part at a diagnosis time. Signals obtained by compressing the band of prescribed false signals are stored in ROM31 in the diagnosis part. For diagnosis of band compressing part 3, prescribed false signals from false signal generation part 11 are inputted to band compressing part 3, and the output is stored in RAM32. After that, contents of the ROM and the RAM are read out simultaneously to detect their disagreement in EX.OR circuit 33, and disagreement is displayed on display part 13. For diagnosis of decoding part 7, the output of the ROM is used. Since contents of the ROM are confirmed previously, the number of bits of the signal decoded by decoding part 7 is known, and the function of decoding part 7 is decided on a basis of this number. For diagnosis of circuit control part 4 and MODEM5, the similar operation is performed.
