Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a film having improved vibration damping, soundproof effects, and impact resistance, by drying a liquid vibration damping material consisting of a specific vehicle and a filler sprayed on the automobile room.
CONSTITUTION: 100 Parts by wt. of a vehicle, e.g. styrene-butadiene rubber or asphalt, soluble in solvents, is incorporated with 30W400 parts by wt. of a filler, e.g. BaSO4 or PbO, and an alcoholic or aromatic hydrocarbon solvent is added to the mixture to give a liquid vibration damping material with a nonvolatile content ≥ 60wt%, a viscosity of 50W250 poises, a degree of thixotropy (η2/η20) of 3.0W6.0, and a specific gravity of 1.2W3.0. The material is then sprayed on the interior of an automobile, e.g. floor, to form a layer of thickness ≥500μ, by a pressure or air spray having a tip diameter of 0.5W4.0mm, and dried at normal temperature or forcibly.
