Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a polypropylene composition capable of affording polypropylene films having outstanding Al-metallizing potential and good printability after the metallizing, by incorporating an inorganic hydroxide in a grefted polypropylene prepared by the graft polymerization of a radically polymerizable unsaturated compound to polypropylene.

CONSTITUTION: The objective composition with high uniformity can be obtained by incorporating 0.001W0.1 part by wt. of an inorganic hydroxide such as Mg(OH)₂, Ca(OH)₂, Al(OH)₃, in 0.1W10 parts by wt. of a grafted polypropylene prepared by the graft polymerization to 100 parts by wt. of polypropylene, of a radically polymerizable unsaturated compound, e.g., (meth)acrylic acid, maleic acid, one of these acid anhydrides, esters, metal salts, and then by carrying out the blending by means of a ribbon blender, Henshel mixer, etc., to perform the pelletizing by an extruder. In the above blending process, such ingredient(s) as an antioxidant, etc., may be incorporated, if necessary. The amount of said inorganic hydroxide to be incorporated would be determined depending upon the amount of the acid component left in the catalyst residue in the polypropylene, the amount mentioned above being sufficient to neutralize the acid component.
