Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title resin composition with high retention of blowing agent leading to high preliminary expansion ratio, by impregnating a blowing agent in a styrene -based copolymer carrying a specific amount of the block component and consisting of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon and a conjugated diene.
CONSTITUTION: A styrene-based polymer in the form of granules with a melt index ≤10 is first prepared by the copolymerization of (a) 95W60 parts by wt. of a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon component with (b) 5W40 parts by wt. of a conjugated diene component so that ≥50wt% of the component (b) is copolymerized with part of the component (a) to form a block copolymer with a vinyl aromatic hydrocarbon content ≥50 wt%. The resulting product is then impregnated with 3W30wt% of a blowing agent consisting of at least one compound selected from an aliphatic hydrocarbon, alicyclic hydrocarbon, and halogenated hydrocarbon, thus giving the objective composition. On heating the composition to 90W110°C, highly preliminarily expanded beads can be obtained.
