Abstract

PURPOSE: To thoroughly capture heavy metal particles, etc. suspended in a liquid by using a filter medium obtd. by mixing or sandwiching a finely divided heavy metal adsorbing material and a fibrous substance.
CONSTITUTION: A finely divided heavy metal adsorbing material such as chelate resin with a grain size of 50 mesh or below and a fibrous substance are mixed and formed into a filter medium. The material may be sandwiched between the substance. A heavy metal-contg. liquid is passed through the medium. In the structure of this medium the adsorbent fine particles are isolated from each other by the fibers and little gaps are held, so filtration of waste water is facilitated, and the medium thoroughly captures suspended particles including colloidal heavy metal cpds. A desorbing soln. consisting of hydrochloric acid and org. acid or hydrogen peroxide is dropped onto the heavy metal-capturing medium to recover the captured heavy metal in the soln. The metal is then concentrated.
