Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title composition having good elastic properties and heat resistance even with reduced melt viscosity, by the reaction between a specific partially cured thermoplastic elastic composition and a low molecular weight polymer in the presence of an organic peroxide.
CONSTITUTION: The objective composition can be obtained by incorporating (A) a partially-cured thermoplastic elastic composition prepared by hot-blending, in the presence of an organic peroxide, of an elastomer selected from butyl rubbers and ethylene-propylene copolymer rubbers with an ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer with (B) a comparatively low molecular weight polymer which may be subject to molecular scission by radical reaction, selected from amorphous polypropylene, polybutene, and polyisobutylene, followed by carrying out reaction on heating in the presence of an organic peroxide.
USE: A base polymer for elastic sealing materials, hot-melt adhesives, and sealants.
