Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain alkali hydoxide ultra fine grains of mμWμ order by fusing solid alkali hydroxide in the presence of an inert org. slolvent and a dispersant followed by vigorous stirring and cooling.
CONSTITUTION: Solid alkali hydroxide is fused in the presence of an inert org. solvent and 0.0001wt% or more of a dispersant followed by vigorous stirring and cooling. The solvent is considered to facilitate stirring of the fused alkali hydroxide, prevent moisture absorption, and promote fusion of the alkali hydroxide. The dispersant exists among the resulting fine grains and prevents the grains from being made large by recoagulation. Benzene, chlorotoluene or the like is used as the solvent, and the dispersant includes a surfactant, finely divided titanium oxide and finely divided zirconium oxide.
