Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide a double mechanical seal, in which sleeves mounting thereon a stationary seal ring that is held in sliding contact with a fixed seal ring from the outside are coupled together by the intermediary of a resilient material, whereby it is enabled to simplify the procedures for attaching and detaching the seal and at the same time to absorb errors in the axial length of the seal.
CONSTITUTION: Since various elements of this seal is formed integrally with each other, it can be handled with ease as if it is made as a unit, so that attachment and detachment of the seal can be accomplished with ease. Further, since a resilient material F is interposed between two sleeves, errors in the length of the double mechanical seal located between flange portion 3 and cover 2, if caused in manufacturing the same, can be compensated so that packings 8, 12 can be protected against rupture and degradation of their sealing performance and at the same time it is avoided that an excessive force is acted to sleeves 7, 11. Change in the axial length of the seal caused due to temperature change can be compensated satisfactorily.
