Abstract

PURPOSE: To make a cooler for an electric machine compact and raise the reliability of the cooler, by entirely enclosing the cooler and detecting the trouble of the cooler to fulfill a back-up function.
CONSTITUTION: A plurality of casings 12 containing heating bodies 10 such as electric machines and self-cooling blowers 11 are connected through a feed duct 16 and an exhaust duct 17 to a cooler 15 comprising an air cooling unit 13 and a circulating blower 14. The feed duct 16 is equipped with a flow switch 18. Each casing 12 is provided with checking doors 21, 22. Normally, enclosed circulation cooling is preformed. When the cooler 15 is defective, the defectiveness is detected by the flow switch 18 and a door 20 of the exhaust duct 17 and the checking doors 21, 22 of the casings 12 are opened to perform once-through cooling. This enables making the cooler compact and raising its reliability.
