PURPOSE:To obtain cosmetics having the hydrophilic nature, without losing the property of an oily base, by compounding specific diesters as oily basis. CONSTITUTION:One or more diester reaction products of a polyethylene glycol [e.g. polyethylene glycol (molecular weight : 200) dineodecanoate], having an average molecular weight of 200-600, preferably, of 200, with an 8-13C side- chain saturated fatty acid (e.g. 2-ethylhexanoic acid, isononyl acid, or neodecanoic acid) as an oily base are compounded to obtain a cosmetic. Softness and elasticity are imparted to the skin by the hydrophilic nature.
