Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a carboxylated resin useful for film and laminating adhesives, having adhesiveness to metal and other synthetic resins, by carboxylating an ethylene polymer with a specific grafting initiator.
CONSTITUTION: (A) 99W50 Parts by wt of an ethylene polymer is reacted with (B) 1W50 parts by wt of an α,β-unsaturated carboxylic acid and/or its anhydride in the presence or absence of (D) one or more types of vinylidene monomers of the formula (X and Y are H, Cl, alkyl, acetoxy, carboxylate, or cyano groups) in a heterogeneous system, using di (2,4-dichlorobenzoyl) peroxide as a grafting initiator. A copolymer containing 1W50wt% of vinyl acetate may be preferably used as (A). The amount of (B) is 1W50wt% based on (C) or (C) and (D), and 1W90 parts by wt of (D) is used per 99W10 parts by wt of (C).
