Abstract

PURPOSE: To ensure that sealing effect can be maintained even on changes of the atmospheric temperature and the ground by inseting in a gap a hollow elastic packing main body which has been flattened by removal of the internal air and utilizing the recoil strength of the packing main body.
CONSTITUTION: A packing main body 1 made of rubber or the like is substantially cylindrical when free external forces, and has a thin bottom portion 2 at its one end. The packing main body 1 becomes flat when the internal air is removed through the other end and the end is closed. The bottom portion 2 is pushed in between opposed thick walls 1a and 1b. The packing main body 1 in this condition is inserted in the gap between blocks; then, with the top end of the packing main body 1 cut out, the packing main body 1 recovers its cylindrical shape due to its own recoil strength, to plug up the gap. Water or sand may be filled in the hollow portion of the packing main body 1 as needed.
