Abstract

PURPOSE:To reinforce semipermeable membrane by forming support and semipermeable membrane integrally by impregnating a porous sheet support with a substance which is insoluble in coagulating liquor for membrane but soluble in membrane-forming liquor solvent in advance. CONSTITUTION:In the manufacture of a composite semipermeable membrane which is to be used in the fields of reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, precise filteration, etc., in which the impregnating treatment of support tends, usually, to cause the voids of porous sheet material to fill and thereby to result in high-air-tightness suitable for the manufacture of anisotropic semipermeable membrane, but tends to damage the adhesion between the sheet material and teh membrane body, when a substance soluble in a solvent used for membrane-forming liquor is used as an impregnating material, the impregnating material adhered to the surface of porous sheet material is dissolved by the solvent of the membrane-forming liquor and mutally dissolved state is produced at the interface between it and the liquor, so that a composite semipermeable membrane in which the membrane body and the support are very strongly adhered to each other can be obtained.
