Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently regenerate an aq. soln. of potassium carbonate used as a carbon dioxide absorbing soln. by adding oleyl alcohol as a defoaming agent to the soln. while adsorption-removing part of oleic acid formed with activated carbon.
CONSTITUTION: Oleyl alcohol as a defoaming agent is added to an aq. soln. of potassium carbonate used as a carbon dioxide absorbing soln. The alcohol-added soln. is dropped from the upper part of regeneration tower 1, fed to reboiler 3 to release carbon dioxide and introduced into the bottom part of tower 1. At this time, the alcohol is oxidized with dissolved oxygen, etc. in the system, forming oleic acid (salt), which foams the regenerated soln. when accumulated. In order to prevent the oleic acid (salt) content of the regeneration system from exceeding the oleyl alcohol content, part of the absorbing soln. is fed to activated carbon-packed tower 7 from the bottom of tower 1 with pump 4 to allow the oleic acid (salt) to be adsorbed. Thus, smooth continuous regeneration can be performed.
