CONSTITUTION: Square signals a and b having a difference, which are generated by the rotation of a rotating member, are differentiated by rising differentiating circuits 5a and 5b, and added to gate circuits 6a and 6b together with the input signals. After the input signal a has become high level and the input signal b subsequently becomes a high level, an output e which is the result of the differentiation of the rise of the input signal b is generated. Conversely, after the input signal b has become a high level, and the input signal a subsequently becomes a high level, an output signal f which is the result of the differentiation of the rise of the input signal f is generated. Therefore, the direction of rotation can be found by sensing which of the output signals e and f appears.
