Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the starting characteristics of a squirrel-cage rotor by providing a negative heat-sensitive resistor at an end ring.
CONSTITUTION: An annular negative heat-sensitive resistor 4 is provided at an end ring 3, and connected to the end ring 3 electrically. Since the resistance Rs of the resistor 4 is large at starting time, the composite resistance becomes substantially only the resistance Re of the end ring. Thus, starting current becomes low and starting torque becomes high as high resistance squirrel-cage rotor characteristics. As the rotor speed is accelerated after the rotor is started, the resistance Rs of the resistor 4 becomes larger, while the composite resistance becomes, on the contrary, only the resistance Rs as compared with the starting time to release the high resistance squirrel-cage rotor characteristics to thereby obtain preferable operating characteristics.
