Abstract
PURPOSE: The reaction of a bisphenol with an acryloyl or methacryloyl halide is effected in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating reagent and a catalyst to produce title compound useful as starting material of polymer and modifier of resins.
CONSTITUTION: The reaction between a compound of formula I [X is Br, Cl; m is integral number of 0W4; A is formula II (b is integral number of 1W4)] and acryloyl or methacryloyl halide is conducted in the presence of a dehydrohalogenating reagent and a catalyst amount of a quarternary ammonium salt (halide or hydroxide) or an anion exchange resin bearing quarternary ammonium groups in the molecule to produce the objective ompound of formula III (Y is H, methyl; B is formula IV). The homopolymerization of said compound gives polymers with high heat resistance and weathering resistance as well as high flame retardancy and the copolymerization thereof with other monomers produces resin with modified properties as improved flame retardancy.
