Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic tape access unit which has less components consumed mechanically, operates at a high speed and has mass-storage by generating the circumferential difference of a tape by applying a fluid to the tape core of an access tape by a nozzle, etc.
CONSTITUTION: Access tape 3 which attains access to input-output tape 5 is wound tightly around tape core 1 and the occupation area of tape 3 is denoted by S. Around tape core 2, on the other hand, access tape 4 and input-output tape 5 are both wound loosely and the same gap as the tapes is given, so that occupation area 4S will be required. To give the gap to the tapes, a fluid is applied to nozzle 7 to increase a space ratio and at the same time, a tape circumferential difference is generated. Input-output tape 5 passes by magnetic head 8 and stops nearly at the terminal of it, thereby finishing its rewind. The gap made by the fluid serves as a tape buffer, so that a high-speed and mass-storage magnetic tape unit can be obtained.
