Abstract

PURPOSE:To remove concurrently harmful components present in exhaust gas by supporting specific amounts of Rh and Pt on an alumina-dominated support in the form of oxides or atoms for a Rh-Pt catalyst. CONSTITUTION:On an alumina-dominated support, 0 to 20g (preferably 1 to 15g) of Fe, 0 to 20g (preferably 1 to 15g) of Ce, 0.005 to 0.3g of Rh, 0.05 to 3g of Pt, 0 to 1.2g of Pd, and 0.01 to 0.5g of Pd are supported in the form of a compound either singly or in combination in terms of respective elements on the basis of 1 liter of complete catalyst, and then the alumina-dominated support so treated is baked. A sufficient amount of Rh is less than 20% by weight of Pt used.
