Abstract

PURPOSE: To support glass rods with one support surface of a hollow glass rod support having a refrigerant pass immediately after abrasion of the other support surface by providing both sides of the support with the same structure of symmetrical arrangement and by contacting three ridge edges, perpendicularly intersecting to the rods, to each of the rods at the same time.
CONSTITUTION: Support 2 for glass rods 1 is formed into a flat octagonal tubular hollow body having a refrigerant feed and discharge pipe acting as rotary shafts 3, 4, and support 2 is placed right over position 6 for making rods 1 fine with hot air 5. Support 2 has rod support surfaces 11, 15 consisting of planes 7, 8, 9 and planes 12, 13, 14, respectively at both sides. The surfaces are provided with the same structure of symmetrical arrangements to shafts 3, 4 and have ridge edges 16, 17, 18 and ridge edges 19, 20, 21 perpendicularly intersecting to rods 1. When edges 16, 17, 18 are worn, support 2 is rotated by 180° while making rods 2 fine, whereby surface 15 is set to the rod support position to support rods 1 with fresh edges 19, 20, 21.
