Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the frequency band for the compressed color signal by varying the compressibility of the color signal in accordance with the variation of the luminace signal for transmission.
CONSTITUTION: The luminance signal is supplied to terminal 1 and then differentiated through differentiating circuit 6 to extract the signal which corresponds to the area where the luminance signal varies large. Based on this signal, the oscillation frequency of voltage control oscillator 7 is controlled to generate the clock through control signal generator 8 to read in the color signal. On the other hand, the color signal is supplied to terminal 2, and the signal is read in through time axis compression circuit 4 and based on the output clock of circuit 8 to be then read out with the fixed clock. As a result, the sharp changing area of the color signal is converted into the gently changing area to receive no band limitation at the transmission line. At the reception part, the luminance signal is supplied through terminal 1', and the reading clock is produced via differentiating circuit 6, voltage control oscillator 7 and generator 8 each. The color signal supplied to terminal 2' is written at time axis companding circuit 5 with the fixed clock and then read out with the clock of generator 8. Thus the waveform of the original color signal is reproduced.
