Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the title compound which is a synthetic oil suitable to plasticizer, etc., in high selectivity, by aralkylating an alkylbenzene with styrene in the presence of a faujasite-type synthetic zeolite as a catalyst at a specific temperature.
CONSTITUTION: The title compound is prepared by reacting (A) 1 mole of an alkylbenzene having a 1W4C alkyl group with (B) ≤0.25 mole of an aromatic olefin selected from styrene, α-methylstyrene, β-methylstyrene and vinyltoluene, in liquid phase, at 130W190°C and a pressure of ≤50kg/cm2, in the presence of a catalyst comprising a faujasite-type synthetic zeolite wherein ≥25% of the cation is exchanged with lantanide cation having atomic number of 57W71.
USE: Solvent having high boiling point, and excellent compatibility, heat resistance, electrical properties, and lubricity.
