Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the title fluoropolymer with flexibility, capable of affording ion- exchange membranes of good heat and chemical resistance and low electrical resistance by hydrolysis of a copolymer composed of a trifluoroacrylate and an olefin.
CONSTITUTION: The objective fluoropolymer can be obtained by hydrolysing a (crosslinked) copolymer prepared by copolymerization of a trifluoroacrylate of formula I (n is an integer 1W4) with an olefin of formula II (l and m are each integers 0W11) in the presence of an initiator. The copolymer contains 40W60 mole% of the trifluoroacrylate. The fluoropolymer finally obtained has pendant side chains containing an ion exchange group such as -COOH, etc.
