PROCESS: 2-(2,6-Dichloroanilino)-benzaldehyde of formulaII is condensed with a cyanoacetate of formulaIII through dehydration to give a 2-cyano-3-[2-(2,6-dichloroanilino)phenyl] acrylate of formulaIV, which is oxidized to form the objective compound of formulaI. The resulting compound is hydrolyzed with an alcoholic alkali and treated with a mineral acid to afford the compound of formulaV useful as the medicine readily in high yield.
