Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the environmental stability of optical system and obtain high quality for a long period of time, by covering the end plane of imaging optical system with a specified thin film in an electrophotographic copier.
CONSTITUTION: A short focus imaging element 1 is a condenser type transparent, bar-shaped photoconductor of which refractive index continuously lowers outward in the radial direction from the center. Adjacently to this element 1 on a straight line, an imaging optical system 3 is composed having the optical axis of each element 1 arrayed in parallel. At light entrance end 3' and light exit end 3" of the array 3 are covered with thin films (measuring several to several hundred μ in thickness) 20, 21 to protect the end planes from external atmosphere. As a result, if the external atmosphere is activated chemically due to corona discharge or other effects, the corrosion of the elements constituting the array may be prevented.
