Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the title high-purity compound capable of being directly used for preparation of (co)polymerization without the deposition of polymers, by vaporizing a formaldehyde solution having a specific methanol concentration under heating, supplying a distillation column having a partial condenser with the vapor, and by extracting trioxane in the vapor-liquid equilibrium contact with water.
CONSTITUTION: A formaldehyde aqueous solution having a methanol concentration of 0.8wt% and a formaldehyde concentration of 40W75wt% as a raw material is vaporized in the presence of an acid catalyst to prepare distilled vapor from a reactor. The vapor is introduced to a distillation column with a partial condenser, the distilled vapor from the distillation column is fed to a vapor-liquid contact device and brought into contact with a water-insoluble or slightly soluble solvent in a vapor-liquid equilibrium phase so that water in the vapor is partially removed as an azeotrope with the solvent and trioxane in the vapor is extracted with the solvent. Trioxane extracted solution taken out from the bottom of the vapor-liquid contact device is separated through distillation into the solvent and trioxane. The interior of the partial condenser is maintained at high temperatures and wet with the liquid, and the interior of the vapor liquid contact device is kept in vapor- liquid equilibrium at high temperature so that deposit phenomenon never occurs.
