Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a molded article in which the formation of sink marks in thick- walled parts or in those parts where the thicknesses change abruptly is prevented, by a method wherein a blowing agent is mixed with a thermoplastic polyester resin prepd. from terephthalic acid and a glycol, and the resin is molded by heating.
CONSTITUTION: 0.02W0.5pts.wt. of a blowing agent having a decomposition temp. of not lower than 200°C is mixed with 100pts.wt. of a thermoplastic polyester resin prepd. from terephthalic acid or an alkyl ester thereof and a 2W4C glycol. The resin is molded by heating at a temp. of not lower than the decomposition temp. of the blowing agent into a molded article having a specific gravity of not less than 95% of the true specific gravity of said polyester resin. When the amount of the blowing agent is more than 0.5pts.wt., the strength of the molded article produced becomes lower than that of a molded article contg. no blowing agent, the surface of the molded article is rough and the molded article is of no practical use. The use of the blowing agent in amount of less than 0.02pts.wt. is ineffective for the prevention of the formation of the sink marks in the molded article.
