Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain a fluoropolymer of MW capable of being controlled in a wide range, by the copolymerization of a fluoroethylenic unsaturated monomer, with a polymerizable monomer containing a carboxyl group, in an aqueous medium containing a water-soluble organic solvent.
CONSTITUTION: In the preparation of a copolymer containing 5W30mol% of a functional monomer, by the copolymerization of a fluoroehylenic unsaturated monomer with a polymerizable, functional monomer having a carboxyl group or a funtional group, conventible to the carboxyl group, in an aqueous medium, by the action of a polymerization initiator the polymerization is carried out with addition of 0.0001W10pts.wt., based on 100pts.wt. of the aqueous medium, of a water-soluble organic solvent. Said functional monomer is preferable a fluorovinyl compound of formula I (wherein l, m and n are respectively aninteger of 0W3, 0W1 and 0W12; X is F or -CF3: Y and Y' are F or 1W10C perfluoroalkyl group: A is -CH, -COOR1, -COOM or -CONR2R3, where R1 is 1W10C alkyl group, R2 and R3 are H or R1, M is alkali metal or quaternary ammonium group). The fluoroethylenic unsaturated monomer is preferably a compound of formula II (wherein Z and Z' are F, H or -CF3).
