Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable high-speed and wide-angle deflection controlling by supporting one point of an optical fiber which has micromechanical load at exit end and providing the specified resonance means thereby vibration-displacing the exit part side of light.
CONSTITUTION: An optical fiber 1 which is deposited with micromechanical load 4 (mass m) in such manner that the end of the fiber, that is, its exit port E, deviates from the position of the loop of vibrations is supported in the position S by a means 3. At the point M on the exit side of light than the foregoing support point S, a vibrating means 100 which resonates the exit side of the optical fiber 1 is coupled to the said fiber. The vibrating means 100 is, for example, the electrostrictive vibrators 10 and 11 which are driven in mutually antiphase and for which the thickness slip vibrations of piezoelectric body are utilized. If slips occur in the contact between the optical fiber 1 and vibrator, an anti-slip 21 is mounted as a vibarating means 100'. If sinusoidal alternating fields or the like are applied to the above-mentioned vibrating means, the portion between S-E vibrates without becoming the point E to the loop of vibrations, whereby the effectively polarized light may be obtained.
